Expanding its footprint across India, Third Wave Coffee has made its debut in the eastern market with the launch of three cafés in Kolkata, marking the coffee-first QSR chain's first entry into the region.
The company has opened two outlets in Ballygunge and one in Salt Lake, with plans to add another five to six cafés in the city during FY27.
The simultaneous opening of three cafés represents one of Third Wave Coffee's most significant city launches to date and aligns with its broader growth strategy focused on strengthening its presence in eastern India.
With a network of over 220 cafés nationwide, the brand said its expansion into Kolkata is fuelled by rising consumer interest in specialty coffee and premium café experiences. The company considers Kolkata a key strategic market and a launchpad for further expansion across East India.
The newly opened cafés feature Third Wave Coffee's portfolio of signature beverages, specialty single-origin coffees, artisanal baked offerings, quick-service meals, and breakfast options. Customers can also access the brand's technology-enabled ordering and loyalty programme through the Third Wave Coffee app.
Additionally, the Kolkata outlets will showcase Third Rush, the company's recently introduced dessert-centric concept, offering an array of cakes, tarts, pies, mousses, cheesecakes, and its signature Jim Jam Tres Leches dessert.
Speaking on the launch, Rajat Luthra, CEO, Third Wave Coffee, said, "Kolkata is one of the most important markets in East India and we are excited to begin our journey in the region with a city that has such a strong affinity for culture, community, and café experiences. Our East India expansion is pivotal to building our national footprint, and we see Kolkata evolving into one of our key markets over the coming years. We are committed to investing in the region and alongside deepening our presence in Kolkata, we are also evaluating opportunities in other cities such as Guwahati, Ranchi, Patna, and Bhubaneswar as we deepen our market presence in the region."
Building on its East India debut, Third Wave Coffee is evaluating expansion opportunities in several other eastern cities, including Guwahati, Ranchi, Patna, and Bhubaneswar, as part of its broader growth strategy.
In FY26, the coffee-first QSR chain expanded its presence by entering Ahmedabad and Agra, while also establishing outlets at key transit destinations such as the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The brand simultaneously deepened its footprint across existing markets, including Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Mysuru.
As part of its aggressive expansion roadmap, Third Wave Coffee aims to launch 100 additional cafés by FY27, which would take its total network to approximately 320 outlets across India.
Established in 2016 by Sushant Goel, Anirudh Sharma, and Ayush Bathwal, Third Wave Coffee today operates more than 220 cafés nationwide. The company remains focused on driving growth through its emphasis on specialty coffee offerings, menu innovation, and technology-enabled customer experiences as it continues to strengthen its presence across the country.
