Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, stands among the most influential leaders in India’s dairy and cooperative sector.
Career
Associated with Amul since 1991, Mehta has risen through the ranks across brand management, product strategy, and organizational leadership, holding pivotal roles as Brand Manager, Group Product Manager, General Manager, and Chief General Manager at the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). His deep-rooted understanding of both markets and cooperatives shaped his appointment as Chief Operating Officer of GCMMF in February 2022, followed by his elevation as Managing Director of Amul in January 2023, succeeding RS Sodhi. In December 2024, he was entrusted with a five year extension, reflecting the confidence reposed in his leadership.
Role & Responsibilities
Mehta is widely credited with steering Amul’s evolution from a largely traditional dairy organization into a modern, marketing led powerhouse with a strong national and global presence. He played a key role in modernizing Amul’s legacy supply chain by implementing a hub and spoke distribution model, ensuring seamless nationwide availability of the brand’s expansive product portfolio. Under his stewardship, Amul strengthened its footprint not only across India but also in international markets such as the United States and Europe.
Beyond Amul, Mehta contributes actively to global dairy and cooperative ecosystems. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Marketing at the International Dairy Federation and part of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Committee on International Trade Policy. He has served on the Global Dairy Trade Events Oversight Board and, in 2025, joined the board of the Global Dairy Platform. He was also inducted into the Circle of Cooperative and Mutual Leaders under the International Cooperative Alliance, nominated to the board of the India Brand Equity Foundation to promote Brand India globally, and elected Chairman of Bharat Taxi, a cooperative ride hailing initiative, in October 2025.
Education Qualification
Jayen Mehta holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) with specialization in Marketing from the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), completed between 1989 and 1991. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Marketing from BJ Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Vallabh Vidyanagar, between 1986 and 1989 where he was a University Gold Medalist.
